The STC Academic SIG Pre-Conference at CPTSC is being held 25 September 2014. The pre-conference is free of charge and is followed immediately by the annual CPTSC and ACM SIGDOC conferences. All three conferences are being held from September 25 to 29 at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs.
The Pre-Conference format has changed this year: it is shorter (Noon - 5pm) and features concurrent sessions.

The Academic SIG is proud to announce a number of honors to be bestowed on our members at the upcoming Summit.

Pam Estes Brewer for the Jay R. Gould award for excellence in teaching.
Kirk St.Amant for his election to Fellow of the STC, and Cindy Pao for her election to Associate Fellow of the STC.
Craig Baehr for the Distinguished SIG Service Award.
Congratulations on your well-deserved honors!
The Academic SIG is also proud to announce it has earned two honors to be presented at The Summit: Community of Excellence (third year in a row), and sharing the Pacesetter award with the Orlando-Central Florida and Willamette Valley chapters for their partnership with the Sigma Tau Delta Society.
The Academic SIG is always pleased to announce news of its members' accomplishments. If you have news you'd like to share, please send a message to our newsletter editor, Samantha Gale (email@example.com).
The deadline for the STC student poster submissions has been extended to Monday, March 31, 2014. The STC Summit will be held in Phoenix, with presentation of winning posters on May 20, 2014.
Previous winner, Samantha Gale, had this to say about her poster contest experience:
"Competing in the STC Student Poster Contest helped hone many of my skills that would later come in handy during job interviews and client work. I had to prepare a physical representation of my research that would answer any possible questions the judges could have; articulate my passion for and knowledge of a topic to people who hadn't seen the work that had gone into creating the poster; and defend myself and my work in front of people who would decide my fate. It was an exciting process, and my hard work paid off with a win — two years in a row!"
This is a wonderful opportunity for students to attend the STC Summit for free (selected posters will be printed by STC), build their portfolios, and network. Instructions for submitting posters can be found here.
The inaugural edition of the Academic SIG newsletter—the Academic Advisor is available! Thanks to Samantha Gale, our editor; Nancy Coppola, contributor; and Rebekka Andersen, contributor! You all have helped us get off to a great start.
Please distribute widely!
If you are a student in an undergraduate or graduate Tech Comm program or course, consider answer the call for the Student Poster Contest at The Summit '14. It's a great opportunity to present one of your research project results, get feedback on your work, and make some professional contacts.
STC will print and display the top 3 posters throughout the Summit. The student finalists will have their conference fee waived for the day of their poster presentation (Tuesday, May 20th), and they will be provided tickets to the Award Banquet that evening.
